Darlington Mowden Park RFC are delighted to announce the signing of George Stokes from Glasgow Warriors. The back row comes to the Northern Echo Arena from the Pro 12 side and has already joined up with the squad, playing in Saturday’s pre-season opener at Hawick. Looking ahead to the upcoming National One campaign, Stokes commented: “I’m really excited to follow on from a good season that the boys had last year and hopefully do my bit for the club and the lads.”
Stokes comes to the North East with international experience, having represented Spain at age group level. The 23 year-old grew up in Spain before being signed by French Top 14 side Toulon, spending 3 years at the club including an appearance in the 2017 Brisbane 10s competition. The flanker spent last season dual-registered with Glasgow and Ayr, and DMP’s Head Coach Garry Law was excited to see Stokes in a Mowden shirt this year: “George has been with us for a week now, and already shown his quality in training and in Saturday’s game at Hawick. He brings real quality to our back row and that’s added to our strength in depth in that position. He’s a player who brings something different to the back row and we feel the players we’ve got in that position really complement each other really well.”
“I’m looking forward to George getting stuck into the season and working with the team and the back row unit in particular.”
