Mowden Park fell to a 33-19 defeat in Round 10 on Saturday, with the hosts running in 5 tries to climb further up the National One table.

DMP made a bright start, and opened the scoring inside 5 minutes. After Ben Douglas had made good ground from a quick tap, Josh Ree latched on to a smart offload from Harry Read to dive over on the left. Read converted to give Mowden a 7 point lead early on. That lead was wiped out minutes later though, as Dan Powell broke a number of tackles to dive over out wide. David Hayes' conversion levelled the scores. Mowden continued to look dangerous in attack, and were denied twice close to the line after breaks from Douglas and Max Fraine. Stortford's defence weathered the storm, and they took the lead when Tristan Smith scored from the back of a driving maul. That was the final score of an end-to-end half, leaving the hosts 14-7 ahead.

The next score would prove important, and it went Stortford's way when Isaac Bell scored from another driving maul. Bell's try put the home side 2 tries clear, before further scores from Chris Bolton and Josh Stannard took them 26 points clear with just 10 minutes to play. Mowden stuck to their task, however, and enjoyed their best spell in the closing stages to score 2 late tries. First the hosts were reduced to 14 men when Harrison Langworthy killed the ball after an excellent break from Sam Turnill, with the resulting lineout seeing Fraine dive over from the back of a maul. Mowden's third came in almost identical fashion with time in the red, with Fraine once again profiting from a strong DMP maul. Read's conversion would be the final play of the game, and Mowden will take heart from their positive finish to an attritional game at Silver Leys.

Mowden now return to home soil on Saturday when they welcome Birmingham Moseley to the Arena in Round 11.
