The sun shone and a large crown turned up for the first even DMPRFC match to be played in the Northern Echo Arena. And a large contingent of u6, u7 and u8s were there to play a major part in the Opening Ceremony. With the usual great support from the parents who had their offspring at the Arena on time and kitted-up ready to go, our youngsters formed a Tunnel of Honour for both teams as they ran on to the pitch to a noisy reception.
We then watched the first half from the main stand and cheered on our first team heroes as they scored some great try’s on their way to a fantastic victory. Then at half-time it was our time to shine. Taking centre stage we had our u6 players sizzling in their 3v3 match, our u7s scintillating in their 4v4 game and our u8s dazzling in their 7-a-side.
Everyone played exceptionally well under the pressure of a large expectant crowd, demonstrating jinky side-steps, swivelling body-swerves and exquisite passing and support play. And when it was over we left the pitch to a warm ovation from the appreciative crowd, no-doubt whetting the appetite of our youngsters to be on that pitch for the first team one day.
All that was left was to take a quick team photo (click on the image accompanying this item) and to re-join their parents in the stand to enjoy a feast of rugby in the second half.
Tag Rugby for u6, u7 and u8s continues every Sunday morning at 10.00am. Please check the website for updates including changes to regular schedules due to adverse weather conditions.
