DMPE Take on Barnard Castle in a Clash For Redemption!

The Elizabethans had into a crucial double-header clash at Barnard Castle on Saturday in the final fixture of 2024, with both 1st and 2nd teams set to take to the field in what promises to be a thrilling day of rugby. After the frustration of last weeks postponed game against Durham Uni due to Storm Darragh, the squad is raring to get back into action!

Head Coach Del Russell's 1st XV currently sitting 11th in the league, face a tough challenge against a Barnard Castle side that holds a solid 5th position. In the reverse fixture earlier this season, DMPE fell short in a spirited contest, losing 26-36 on home turf. The lads left that match knowing they were just a few key moments away from turning the tide. However, the squad is eager to make amends, with plenty of fire in their hearts.

1st XV captain Danny Winter shared his thoughts ahead of the game:
"The lads are absolutely buzzing to get back out there after last week's postponed game. Its been a frustrating wait, but we're focussed, ready to turn the screw and give everything we've got. Barny are a strong side, but we're coming hungry for a result"

The 2nd XV will also have a chance to shine on Saturday, facing a strong Barnard Castle side. Captain Oscar Black is confident the team can rise to the occasion:
"It's always exciting to have a double-header, and the lads are pumped for it. Training has been sharp and we're ready to continue the winning momentum."

Barnard Castle will look to defend home turf and assert their league dominance. Having secured the win in the reverse fixture, they'll want to replicate that success at home while being wary of a determined DMPE side looking for redemtion. The Elizabethans have shown in recent fixtures they can capitalize on turnovers and broken play. Quick transitions from defense to attack could be the key to unlocking Barnard Castle's defence and create scoring opportunities.

A Festive Fianle to 2024
The match day will also host the Elizabethans Christmas social, bringing together players and supporters for an evening of celebration after the on-field battles. The event adds a layer to what will be a great day, blending fierce competition with camaraderie and festive cheer.
