Darlington Mowden Park are delighted to announce the signing of Paul Jarvis from Doncaster Knights. Jarvis becomes DMP’s 6th new signing of the summer as preparations continue for the 2019/20 National One season.
Jarvis brings a wealth of Championship experience to the squad, having made in excess of 120 appearance for the Knights. The versatile back, who can cover both full back and wing, has scored 34 tries in his 6 seasons in the Championship. Ahead of joining up with the squad, Jarvis was excited to get started: “I’m really excited to be joining Mowden Park, I felt it was time for me to move on from Doncaster and look to dip my toe into the working world a little bit. I was approached by a few clubs but it only really took the one meeting with Danny and Garry and the decision to sign at Mowden was almost a no brainier for me.”
The 29 year-old had previously played for Hartpury College before joining Doncaster, and represented the Barbarians in 2010 alongside DMP lock Talite Vaioleti. Asked about his motivations for joining the club, Jarvis added: “Their focus on what they want the club to be about and the ambition the club has going forward was exactly the environment I was looking for. My girlfriend is from the area and her dad, Trevor Alley, is involved with the club so this also made the option a perfect fit really.”
In addition to his exploits in the 15 a side game, Jarvis has also run out for Gloucester in the JP Morgan Premiership 7s series, as well as representing Great Britain Students in the shorter format. Asked what his ambitions were for his latest challenge, Jarvis commented: “I’m looking forward to getting stuck into pre-season and doing everything I can to try and help the club progress to where it wants to be.”
DMP Head Coach Garry Law added: “Signing Paul was a no brainer for me once we knew there was interest in him coming to DMP. He has strong connections to the club through his partner so knows a bit about us and the area. Having now been a pro with Doncaster for the last 6 years he is looking at life after rugby and relocating to the area, we at DMP are working with our partners to help move this process along for Paul.”
“He has immense talent especially with ball in hand and he’s willing to break from anywhere on the pitch. We see him being a perfect fit within the new exciting squad we are putting together. I know Paul can't wait to get started with this phase of his career and equally we also can't wait for him to pull on a DMP shirt and show our supporters what he can do.”
