Birmingham Moseley took maximum points from their trip to the Darlington Arena on Saturday in a low scoring contest. The result sees Moseley solidify their place in the top half of the National One table, with work to do for Mowden at the bottom of the standings.
Mowden enjoyed the better of the early exchanges, but were unable to turn their pressure into points after a series of attacking lineouts. Moseley struck first, with David Langley crashing over on the 15 minute mark. Defenses were on top in a closely fought first 40, and Mowden came close to getting on the board when Liam Checksfield was forced into touch metres from the visitors' line. Moseley's second try was a sucker punch with the final play of the half, with the away side stealing an attacking DMP lineout and going the length for scrum half Tom Miles to dot down. The conversion took the score to 0-14 at the break.
The second half started in similar fashion to the first, with some early possession and territory for DMP in the Moseley half. The away side defended well though, and capitalised on a DMP turnover for a try on the counter from Morgan Dawes. Their fourth came minutes later through Will Safe, taking the visitors 24 points clear. With both sides emptying the benches late on it was Mowden who finished the stronger of the two sides, and they had a consolation try with time in the red when Will Jones finished a driving maul, converted by Harry Read.
A disappointing result for DMP, who will go in search of their first away win of the campaign when they visit Plymouth Albion on Saturday in Round 12.
