PLYMOUTH ALBION RFC PREVIEW

PLYMOUTH ALBION RFC PREVIEW

Kevin Robinson10 Nov 2015 - 12:14

DMPRFC make the long journey South at the weekend to face Devon club Plymouth Albion RFC.

‘Planes, trains and automobiles’.

(Sounds like the title of a film)

But add to that a coach and then that is what transport will probably be required to convey the DMPRFC squad to the Brickfields Recreation Ground HQ of Plymouth Albion RFC this weekend, for the first ever game between the two clubs.

As it ‘says on the tin’, National League One ‘is what it is’ and DMPRFC will travel the furthest they have ever travelled for a league game, when they travel the 376 miles to the principality of Plymouth, in the County of Devon.

Plymouth Albion RFC were formed when Devonport Albion RFC and Plymouth RFC joined forces in 1920 and in current times they previously spent 13 seasons in the Championship, until their relegation into National League One last season.

Since their opening day win at home to Richmond RFC (33 – 20), Plymouth Albion RFC have registered another 4 wins, the last three to clubs below them in the table, including last week away at Henley Hawks RFC, where they won 3 – 36.

They have managed 3 try bonus points and 3 losing bonus points, amassing 26 league points in total, enabling to sit in 7th place in the National League One table.

Their top try scorer is fly half Billy Searle with 6 tries and their top points scorer and kicker is full back Thomas Putt, who has registered 53 points (1 try, 15 conversions and 6 penalties).

All at DMPRFC are looking forward to visiting Brickfields and are under no illusions that to come away with points will be a major undertaking.

DMPRFC new players Tom HARRISON, Tom JUBB, Ali BONE, Peter HOMAN and Jake HENRY signed from Plymouth Albion RFC this season and whichever of those 5 players are selected for the squad will find it a surreal experience with a quick return.

Although a valuable losing bonus point was gained in the home encounter which was lost last weekend by a single point (21 – 22) to Richmond RFC, all connections were disappointed that a much needed win was not forthcoming.

Having said that, the team performance was a vast improvement to that of some displays in previous weeks and that extra spark and focus witnessed can only auger well for the weeks ahead.

Tries from lock Rob CONQUEST and fly half Warren SEALS, together with a conversion and 3 penalties from Garry LAW just failed to take spoils on that occasion.

It is a difficult ask for DMPRFC supporters to be expected to travel such a long journey, but they will be there and will be as vocal as ever and for that the squad are forever grateful.

Plymouth Albion RFC have highlighted the day as an ‘ARMED FORCES DAY’, with free entry to serving personnel to whom we are forever endebted.
