DMP Durham Sharks can today confirm that they will play all remaining 2020/21 Allianz Premier 15s home games at Durham University’s Sports and Wellbeing Park. The facilities located at Maiden Castle will host the six outstanding Sharks home fixtures, starting with Saturday’s game against Saracens (2pm Kick Off). The decision to relocate the remaining fixtures was taken in order to maximise player safety in compliance with the league’s COVID-19 guidelines.
Mark Brian, Head of Sport & Physical Activity at Durham University, commented: “We are delighted that we are able to become the home of DMP Durham Sharks for the remainder of the season. We are continuing to strengthen the partnership between the club and the university and enabling the club to train and play at our £32m Sports and Wellbeing Park is part of this ongoing work.”
“We are really excited to welcome players and staff to Durham University and we are sure that the experience that they will have will be second to none.”
The move will see fixtures being played on one of the many world class artificial surfaces at the development, whilst the games will be played behind closed doors as per government guidance. Sharks Performance Manager Rob Vickers added: “We’re pleased to be playing our upcoming home games at the University and we’re grateful for their hospitality. The facilities there are outstanding and will allow us to train and play safely in a brilliant environment for elite sport.”
