Mowden Park concluded their pre-season schedule with a five try win over Tynedale on Friday evening. DMP's tries came from Liam Checksfield, Garry Law, Max Fraine, Ollie Walker and Carl Guest on a night where both sides rotated their squads heavily ahead of the league season.
DMP's first try was arguably the best of the bunch, with a well timed pass from Harry Read putting Liam Checksfield through the Tynedale defence to score out wide. Mowden's second came minutes later through Garry Law, before a beautifully worked lineout saw Max Fraine dive over in the right corner. Their fourth of the evening came from Ollie Walker, who finished a midfield break well to outstrip the Tynedale covering defence.
Garry Law's side led 0-24 at the break, before ringing the changes for the second half. Tynedale started the second period the better of the two sides, and got themselves on the scoresheet after some sustained pressure on the DMP line. Mowden responded with a catch and drive finished off by Carl Guest, and that proved to be the final score of the game after a scrappy finish in the closing stages.
A big thanks to Tynedale for hosting Friday's fixture, and we wish them well for their upcoming National Two North campaign.
